Upcoming Wireless Communications Industry Conference to Highlight FirstNet

FirstNet will be a key focus for the upcoming International Wireless and Communications Expo (IWCE) in March. FirstNet Issues RFP for Nationwide LTE Network for Public Safety

On January 13, FirstNet released its Request for Proposals (RFP) for a nationwide public safety broadband network.  In a press release issued by FirstNet, Chief Executive Officer Mike Poth says, "We  have developed this RFP  in an open  forum to  create  a ‘first of its kind’ public-private partnership for the network.  As we move into the next phase of the process, we  look forward to receiving  competitive offerings  to deliver the best possible network for public safety." FirstNet 2015: Year in Review

In a blog post from Jeff Johnson, FirstNet Board Vice Chair, he outlines the progress the First Responder Network Authority (FirstNet) has made in 2015. Many impactful steps were taken to forward FirstNet’s efforts to deploy a nationwide public safety broadband network (NPSBN). Beginning in July of 2014, FirstNet completed initial consultations with 55 states and territories in 2015. FirstNet: Priority Issues Likely Limited to Secondary Users

The Public Safety Advisory Committee (PSAC) is studying the Nationwide Public Safety Broadband Network (NPSBN). Its task is to understand the network’s capacity especially during times of disaster. In an article from Urgent Communications, “FirstNet LTE  sites should provide enough bandwidth capacity to serve the needs of public safety users in almost all response scenarios,” per findings by PSAC.
