FirstNet Financially Stable for Fiscal 2016

In a press release from FirsNet.gov, FirstNet has secured $126 million for FY16 key outcomes and deliverables.  The press release reports: “In approving Resolution 66, ‘Fiscal Year 2016 Budget,’ the Board authorizes FirstNet management to obligate spending up to $86 million on acquisition activities to include the finalization and evaluation of the Request for Proposal (RFP), cyber security, and spectrum relocation; $28.7 million for consultation and outreach to the states, territories, federal agencies, tribal governments, and local jurisdictions; and $11.3 million in corporate services and other expenses.” Continue reading further for...

RECAP: Regional Interoperability Committee Workshop 2

Public Safety Officials from the Waterloo area gathered to discuss FirstNet case studies and hold Regional Interoperability Committee Elections On Sept. 17, the Iowa Statewide Interoperable Communications System Board (ISICSB), in cooperation with Connect Iowa, held an all-day, interactive workshop designed to further the progress of the First Responders Network Authority (FirstNet) in Iowa. Usually we don’t think of Jersey Shore when we think about FirstNet, but an article from GCN shows us exactly why we should think of these two hand-in-hand. Concerts held in August in Jersey Shore created the perfect opportunity to test out FirstNet’s capabilities. The Iowa Statewide Interoperable Communications System Board (ISICSB) will be conducting a series of meetings related to the deployment of FirstNet within Iowa. Additionally these regional meetings will establish the creation of Regional Interoperability Committees (RICs) within each of the six Iowa homeland security regions.
