It's National Police Week

In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation which designated May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week in which that date falls as National Police Week. Every year, between 25,000 and 40,000 law enforcement officers from around the world converge on Washington, D.C. this particular week to honor fallen officers and take part in a series of events. The Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks against the United States prompted the 9/11 Commission to recommend a dedicated public safety communications network. This network would be interoperable and nationwide to resolve the communication issues emergency responders face when tragedy strikes.
